Penguins Drop Tough 4-3 Decision to Milwaukee

The Youngstown Sate women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Milwaukee on Saturday night at the Boardman Tennis Center. The Penguins won three of the six singles matches, but could not get past the league-leading Panthers.
In doubles play, the Penguins won at No. 1 behind a strong performance by Margarita Sadovnikova and Marta Burak by an 8-2 score over Aerielle Pendleton and Hayley Marshall. The Panthers evened the session with a win at No. 2 as Diana Tokar and Alysa Straub beat Dominka Lackova and Annina Brendel. At No. 3, UWM took the point with an 8-6 win as Christina Colarossi and Kristin Kurer defeated Carolyn Jesko and Nehel Sahni.
The singles matches were hard fought, but all were decided in straight sets.
The first match went to Milwaukee at No. 6 as Kurer beat Jesko 6-1, 6-0. The Guins picked up their first point of the match when Burak cruised past Chelsea Bailey by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 2.
YSU drew even when Sahni won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and took a 3-2 advantage as Lackova battled for a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win at No. 3 against Marshall. In close match, the Panthers won at No. 4 as Colarossi beat Brendel 6-4, 7-5.
The final match was at No. 1 where Tokar pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Sadovnikova. After dropping the first set, Sadovnikova jumped out to an early lead in set No. 2. Tokar then took the lead before Sadovnikova battled back to tie the set at four. Tokar held serve to go ahead 5-4 and then scored the final four points to pull out the win.
With the win, Milwaukee improves to 12-7 overall and 6-0 in the Horizon League while YSU drops to 8-11 and 3-2.
The Penguins conclude the weekend with a home match against Green Bay at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 7:30 a.m.
