The Youngstown State women's tennis team will be in action against Milwaukee on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Boardman Tennis Center and play host to Green Bay at 8 a.m. on Sunday in its final two home matches of the campaign.
Against Milwaukee, the Penguins will honor seniors Margarita Sadovnikova, Gimena Puppo and Carolyn Jesko before the match. YSU enters the match with an overall mark of 8-10 and is 3-1 in the Horizon League. Milwaukee leads the Horizon League with a 5-0 record and is 11-7 overall.
Sadovnikova has had one of the best careers in the program's history. She has won a school record 71 singles matches and combined with 52 doubles wins had 123 career victories. This year she is 16-9 overall, 11-7 at No. 1 singles and 4-0 in HL matches.
In her career she has 54 dual wins, 37 of which have come at No. 1 while 17 have been in the No. 2 spot. Sadovnikova owns a career winning percentage of .664. In Horizon League play, she owns a 22-5 career mark, but since April 3, 2011, she has not lost a conference match. Entering this weekend, Sadovnikova has won 16 straight HL singles matches.
Puppo has played at four singles spots during her career and picked up 17 victories. At doubles, she has earned 16 wins as well. A spirited player, she has played in 56 doubles matches and 72 singles tilts. This year she has a career-best six singles wins and has tied her career season-best wins mark in doubles play.
Jesko has played in 86 singles matches and 85 doubles matches during her YSU career. She owns 20 singles wins in her career and has played at five different spots in the lineup. In doubles play she has picked up 38 wins, including a 10-5 mark in the No. 1 spot and went 15-8 at various tournaments throughout her career. Highlighting her career was a 14-win doubles campaign in 2011-12, which included six HL victories.
YSU has dropped three straight matches to the Panthers since a win at the BTC in 2010. However, UWM is just 1-6 outside of Milwaukee have dropped its last six contests this year. The Penguins are 2-1 at home this year with wins over Akron and Wright State.
On Sunday, YSU closes out its home season against Green Bay. Entering its match at Cleveland State on Saturday, the Phoenix are 1-11 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Following the pair of matches this weekend, the Guins close out the regular season at Valparaiso and UIC on April 18 and April 19.
