Newcomers, Veterans Shine For Penguins at Icebreaker Meet

Youngstown State freshman Caleb Lloyd set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles in his YSU debut as the Penguins opened the season with a strong all-around performance at the YSU Icebreaker on Friday at the WATTS.
Lloyd, younger brother of four-time Horizon League indoor hurdle champion Cassandra Lloyd of Wright State, posted a school-best time of 8.13 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday. His time broke the mark of 8.22 seconds set back in March 2009 by Jerrill Hall.
Other athletes to win events at the Icebreaker were Conner Neu, Dylin Wilhoite, Carl Zallow, Ryan Sullivan, Arnaldo Morales, Jaynee Corbett, Michelle Klim, Jennifer Shiley, Savannah Osborne and Nina Grambling. Corbett was a two-event winner taking first place in the shot put and the weight throw. Grambling finished first in both sprint events - the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.
In the running events, the men won 200 meters, 800 meters and 3,000 meters while the women took first in the 60m dash, 200m, 400m and the 3,000 meters.
Zallow, making his collegiate debut, won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.89 seconds ahead of unattached YSU football player I'Tavious Harvin who had a time of 22.30. In the 60-meter dash, Zallow placed third with a time of 6.98 seconds.
Having success in his first meet was Wilhoite who won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.30. In the 3,000 meters, Sullivan won the event with a time of 8:54.56 while Ethan Wilson was third at 9:13.60.
Also for the men, in the mile, freshman James Nedrich was third with a time of 4:32.02 and freshman Alan Burns fourth at 4:33.12.
For the women, Grambling won 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58 seconds and placed first in the 200 meters at 24.65 seconds. Shiley won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.08 seconds. In the 3,000m, Michelle Klim won with a time of 10:53.68.
Also for the women, freshman Courtney Lukac was second with a time of 2:23.23 in the 800 meters. In the mile, McKinsie Klim was third with a time of 5:15.89, Melissa Klim placed fourth with a 5:28.99 and Michelle Klim was fifth at 5:40.73.
In the the throwing events, won the weight throw with a toss of 19.42 meters while Matt Monroe was fifth with a toss of 13.94 meters. Corbett won the weight throw with a career-best toss of 16.12 meters. In the shot put, she won with a throw of 14.06 meters while Jennifer Neider was second with a toss of 13.80 meters.
In the jumping events, Morales tied for first in the high jump clearing a height of 2.03 meters along with Theil's Nic Jones. Jay Jakovina finished third also clearing 2.03 meters. In the pole vault, freshman Stephen Minto placed third clearing a height of 4.40 meters
Osborne took first in the triple jump with a winning leap of 11.55 meters while Ellie Pollock placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.46 meters. In the high jump, Mackenzie Sturtz finished second clearing a height of 1.60 meters, Ashley Wagner was fourth, Leanna Hartsough finished fifth and Chenera Lacey placed sixth.
The Penguins return to action in January when they host the YSU College Invitational.
