Errors Hurt Softball in 8-3 loss to Jacksonville State

The Youngstown State softball team dropped its third straight game of the season with an 8-3 loss to Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament.
Senior pitcher Hana Somogyi scattered just four hits and surrendered just three earned runs buy the Penguins committed six errors that led to five unearned runs.
The Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Brooke Meenachan led off the frame with a single to left-center field. After Samantha Troxel reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt and Molly Manietta's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, Meenachan scored on a wild pitch.
Troxell scored the Penguins second run when Kelly Stowe reached on an error.
Jacksonville State cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the second, then scored five more in the bottom of the third to take 6-2 edge. All JSU's five runs in the third came with two outs.
After Jacksonville State extended its lead to 7-2, Sarah Ingalls doubled home Vicky Rumph to get within 7-3.
JSU added another run in the bottom of the sixth for the game's final score.
The Penguins play at the USF Under Armour Showcase, March 8-10, in Tampa, Fla.
