Sprinters Highlight Penguins' Performances on Day One

Youngstown State sprinters, Michael Davis, Tarelle Irwin. Nina Grambling and Ciara Jarrett all posted impressive times in the sprint events on the first day of action at the Horizon League Championships held at the WATTS.
The women had a sold start scoring 34 points on the first day. Milwaukee leads on the women's side with 48 points while Loyola is second with 42. On the men's side Loyola is first with 58 points while UWM is second with 45. The Penguins sit in fifth place after day one.
Jarrett had an impressive day finishing with the top qualifying times in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash while placing third in the long jump. In the 60-meter dash, Jarrett posted a time of 7.57 seconds. Later in the evening, she clocked a Horzion-League record time of 24.48 seconds in the 200 meters. To cap her busy evening, she was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.54 meters.
The other women's sprinters who had solid qualifying times were Alexis Washington who was sixth in the 60m with a time of 7.82 seconds. Nina Gambling had the fourth-fastest time in the 200 meters at 24.87 seconds to advance to Sunday's finals.
Nicole Pachol advanced in the 400m with a time of 57.53 seconds as did Alteeka Vanwright who clocked in at 57.66 seconds. Alexis Cooper was eighth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.54 to move on to Sunday. Kendall Homan was eighth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.17 seconds and she also advanced.
In the finals on Saturday, Hanna Ropp was second in the pole vault with a leap of 3.50 meters. Megan Wesner was fourth in the weight throw at 15.12 meters. Anna Pompeo was fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:47.87. The Penguins were third in the Distance Medley Relay at 12:11.64.
In the 200-meter dash Irwin was the top qualifier at 21.61 seconds while Davis was second at 21.67 seconds.
Davis, at 6.81 seconds, was the top finisher in the 60 meter while Irwin was third 6.86 seconds.
In the finals on Saturday, George Thomas was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 16.55 meters and Garrett Mathias was fourth in the pole vault at 4.31 meters.
Also set for Sunday are the finals in the high jump - Katrina Rettburg, Jay Jakovina will be competing for the Guins. In the triple jump, Homan and Davis will be in action. In the shot put, John Seaver, Eric Vandemia, George Thomas, Jake Chiclowe will be competing for the men while Megan Wisner and Jennifer Neider will be throwing for the women.
