Box Score 2 Spartanburg, S.C. -- Sophomore Casey Crozier fired a two-hitter and struck out eight and senior Jordan Ingalls went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in a 6-1 win over UNC-Wilimington on Friday afternoon at the Spartan Invitational at USC-Upstate. The Guins also lost to USC-Upstate, 4-0.
After giving up an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, Crozier settled in and allowed just one Seahawks runner reach second base.
The Guins also capitalized on four UNCW errors, two in the second inning and two more in the three-run sixth.
In the second, junior Vicky Rumph led off the frame with a walk and scored on a throwing error. Sophomore Sarah Ingalls gave the Guins the lead with a single to right field that scored freshman Kayla Haslett, who also walked.
Back-to-back singles by junior Caroline Krombach and Jordan Ingalls led off the third inning and, after a wild, Haslett laced two-out single to left field to plate Krombach and give the Guins a 3-1 edge.
Senior Kristen Philen and freshman Brooke Meenachan each reach on a fielding error to start the sixth inning. After sophomore Samantha Snodgrass singled to load the bases, senior Haley Thomas walked to plate Philen to extend the Guins lead to 4-1.
Jordan Ingalls then singled up the middle to score Meenachan and Snodgrass to push the Guins ahead, 6-1.
Against USC-Upstate, Jordan Ingalls tallied two more hits but the Guins did not have a runner reach third base in the 4-0 defeat.
The Guins take on Howard, Saturday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
