Hundelt, Carlisle Strong as Volleyball Falls in Four to Buffalo

Bloomington, Ind. -- Youngstown State sophomores Missy Hundelt and Jackie Carlisle combined for 32 kills as the Penguins volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Buffalo at the IU adidas Classic on Friday evening.
Hundelt posted 19 kills on a .410 attack percentage, eight digs and five aces for the Penguins, who fell 28-26, 25-27, 25-19, 25-18. Carlisle added 13 kills and hit .321.
The Bulls had won nine straight sets over the previous two years. Dana Musil had 15 kills to lead Buffalo.
Hundelt got off to a fantastic start with seven kills and three aces in the opening set. Her third consecutive ace put the Penguins ahead 7-3 early, but the Bulls scored the next six points to go up 9-7. YSU finally regained the lead at 15-14 on an Alexis Egler kill, and an Egler ace put the Penguins up 21-18.
Buffalo retook the lead at 22-21, but YSU scored three straight points to give it two set points. Erika West's serving error made the score 24-23, and Musil's kill tied the score at 24-24. Hundelt's seventh kill of the set gave the Penguins another set point at 26-25, but Rachel Gambow's service error started a three-point run for Buffalo that closed out the set.
Buffalo was the early leader in the second set as it opened up a 9-4 advantage. The Penguins, though, scored eight straight points to go up 12-9. Carlisle had three kills during the run, and West's second ace of the run gave the Guins their three-point lead. They eventually went up 15-10, but they had to escape a set point late when Buffalo led 24-23. With the score tied at 25-25, Buffalo had a service error and an attack error.
The Bulls trailed only 1-0 and 2-1 in the third set as they won 25-19.
With the fourth set tied at 12-12, Buffalo scored seven straight points to go up 19-12. A kill and back-to-back aces from Hundelt cut YSU's deficit to 21-17, but Buffalo scored four of the final five points after a timeout to close out the match.
Youngstown State will play Saturday against Indiana at noon and versus SEMO at 5:30 p.m.
