Canfield, Ohio -- Green Bay scored eight unearned runs in an 11-run fifth inning to knock off the Youngstown State softball team 11-5 on Sunday afternoon at McCune Park.
The Guins finish the 2011 season with a 22-24 overall record and a 5-16 mark in the Horizon League. Green Bay improves to 24-22 overall and 10-13 in the Horizon League.
The Guins jumped out to a early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Vicky Rumph's two-run single.
Junior Haley Thomas was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to third when Kristina Rendle reached second on a error on a sacrifice bunt attempt.
Then Rumph laced a single up the middle to plate Thomas and Rendle.
The Guins went ahead 3-0 when Thomas plated Haley Knight, who reach on an error, with a single to center field.
Green Bay capitalized on a Guins error to lead off the fifth inning and used a two-run triple by Sarah Junior and a two-run home run by Alli Rivera, who drove in four runs, to take a 4-3 lead.
The Phoenix also scored seven unearned runs with two outs.
Junior Amanda Palmore recorded a two-out, bases-loaded single up the middle to score Samantha Snodgrass and pinch-runner Kelly Fox for the game's final runs.
