Box Score The Youngstown State baseball team will complete its regular
season with a three-game series at UIC that starts Thursday. The
Penguins and Flames will play one game at 7:05 p.m. Eastern on
Thursday and a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1:05 p.m.
Eastern.
The Penguins have already clinched a spot in next week's Horizon
League Baseball Championship, but their seed is still up in the
air. YSU is currently sixth but could surpass Butler by sweeping
UIC and having Butler lose its three games at Wright State. If
nothing else, the Penguins would enter the tournament with some
momentum with a few wins against the Flames.
YSU lost a pair of 5-1 games to UIC in a doubleheader at
Eastwood Field on May 1. The Flames scored the final five runs to
win the opener in seven innings. They scored the first five runs in
game two. UIC had just 12 hits in the doubleheader, but the
Penguins were limited to nine hits combined in the 16 innings.
UIC is currently second in the Horizon League standings,
trailing leader Wright State by one game. The Flames could drop
down as far as fourth, however. They lead Valparaiso by a half game
and Milwaukee by two in the loss column.
