Box Score Cincinnati, Ohio -- Cincinnati banged out
14 hits and had 11 more runners reach base in a 13-0 shutout of the
Youngstown State baseball team in a rain-shortened, seven inning
contest on Saturday at Marge Schott Stadium.
The Bearcats scored twice in the first without recording a hit,
and they scored three runs with two outs in the third. Cincinnati
then scored three times in the fourth and blew the game open with
five runs in the fifth.

YSU, which went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
"We allowed the leadoff runner to reach in six out of the seven
innings, and we just didn't throw a lot of strikes today," head
coach Rich Pasquale said. "We were behind in counts, and that
allowed their hitters to tee off. We need to execute on the
mound."
"Offensively, we have to do a better job on being more
aggressive in plus counts. That said, we can still with the series
tomorrow."
"Defense was the bright spot today. We made some good plays and
the outfielders ran down some balls."
T.J. Jones and Braden Kline each had two hits and drove in three
runs for Cincinnati. Jones hit a two-out, two-run double in the
third that put Cincinnati up 5-0, and Kline's two-run double in the
fourth made the score 8-0.
Cincinnati starter Dan Jensen threw six scoreless innings,
allowing just two hits while walking three. Dan Glozer threw the
seventh for the Bearcats. The pair combined for four
strikeouts.
Freshman reliever Nic Manuppelli threw 2.2 scoreless innings,
surrendering two hits and four walks while striking out two.
Cincinnati had the bases loaded off him with two outs in the
seventh when the game was called.
YSU's Phil Klein allowed six earned runs on eight hits and three
walks in 3.1 innings. He left with the Penguins down 6-0, and two
more runs were charged to him when Kline doubled for UC. Blake
Aquadro allowed five runs in 0.2 innings.
The Penguins and Bearcats are scheduled to play a doubleheader
on Sunday at 1 p.m.
