Errors Prove Costly in 6-2 Loss to Loyola

Canfield, Ohio -- Two errors led to four unearned runs for the Ramblers as the Youngstown State softball team dropped a 6-2 decision to Loyola on Sunday afternoon at McCune Park.
The Guins fall to 15-10 overall and 0-3 in the Horizon League while the Ramblers improve to 11-9 overall and 3-0 in the league.
After scoring one in the top of the first, Loyola's Lauren Arceneaux drilled a two-out three-run home run to right-center field to put the Ramblers up 4-0 in top of the third.
In the that frame, Casey Crozier induced two flyouts, but an error sandwiched between the two outs and a two-out walk extended the frame and accounted for the three unearned runs.
The Guins were able to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth, 4-2, on a bases-loaded walk by Jordan Ingalls and a run-scoring single by Haley Thomas. However, Loyola pitcher Seana Stillson, who faced a bases-loaded, no-out situation, induced a ground ball back to the circle and the Guins stranded the bases loaded.
Sarah Gabel led off the fifth with a single through the left side and a walk to Amanda Palmore and an infield single by Kristina Rendle loaded the bases with no outs.
Gabel was retired on a force out at the plate on a ground ball back to the pitcher before Ingalls' walk scored Palmore. Stillson popped up Vicky Rumph to enforce the infield-fly rule and Thomas singled to right field to plate Krombach.
The Ramblers added a run in the sixth and an unearned run in the seventh to seal the win.
Crozier, who struck out three in a complete-game effort, allowed just two earned runs but walked four batters.
Rendle went 2-for-4 to lead the Penguins offensively.
The Guins return to action against Niagara, Wednesday, March 30, in Niagara Falls, N.Y. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
