Softball Returns to Action Wednesday With Doubleheader at Robert Morris

The Youngstown State softball team (15-7) returns to action Wednesday when the visit Robert Morris in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa.
The Guins are coming off a successful trip south to the Rebel Games. The Guins went 7-3 during the Rebel Games and have won 10 of their last 14 contests.
The Robert Morris Series
The Guins and Colonials have met 57 times previously and YSU owns a 32-25 advantage in the all-time series. The Colonials, however, have won the last six games and seven of the last eight contests against the Guins. The last time YSU defeated the Colonials was a 6-4 victory on April 10, 2006.

The Guins take on Loyola in a doubleheader, Saturday, March 26, in the home and Horizon League opener. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at McC The Guins and Ramblers also play a single game on Sunday, March 27, at Noon.
Jordan Ingalls Named HL POW Again
For the second consecutive week, Youngstown State junior Jordan Ingalls has been named the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Ingalls' back-to-back awards mark the first time since joining the Horizon League that a Youngstown State player has won the award in consecutive weeks. Ingalls led the Guins to a 6-2 mark last week and batted an impressive .548 with four extra-base hits. Ingalls had a double, two triples and a home run last week. She recorded a hit in each game and had multi-hit games six times. She also had three hits in three contests. She also drove in 12 runs in eight games, including the game-winner against Colgate to cap a 6-5 victory after trailing 5-0 after five innings.
Rendle Hit Streak Snapped
Senior Kristina Rendle had her 17-game hitting streak snapped in the Guins' 6-5 come-from-behind win over Colgate on March 18. During her streak, Rendle batted .473 (26-for-55) with a double, two triples, a home run and 13 runs batted in. She also recorded nine multi-hit games during the streak.
Crozier Notches Pair of Wins
On the last day at the Rebel Games, freshman hurler Casey Crozier picked up her eighth and ninth wins of the season. Crozier pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief in games against Bucknell and Colgate on March 18 to earn the victories. Crozier currently leads the team with a record of 9-4 with an earned-run average of 2.78. She also leads the team with 50 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched.
Somogyi Gaining Wins in Circle
Sophomore pitcher Hana Somogyi has shown tremendous improvement in the circle this season. Somogyi has a record of 5-2 with an earned-run average of 3.34. Somogyi is also 3-0 in her last three decisions.
Rumph Finding Groove
Over the last four games, sophomore Vicky Rumph has been a tough out. Rumph is batting .625 with seven runs batted in.
Stealing Guins
One aspect the Guins have shown significant improvement has been stealing bases. Last season, the Guins were just 10-of-20 in stolen-base attempts. This season, the Guins have stolen 29 bases in 37 attempts. Kristina Rendle and Jordan Ingalls each lead the team with five while junior Kristen Philen has four.
