Kissimmee, Fla. -- Three straight two-out hits that led to two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Youngstown State softball team (13-7) to a 5-4 win over Siena on Thursday afternoon at the Rebel Games. The Guins also dropped an 8-6 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson earlier in the day.
Sophomore Vicky Rumph went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, including driving in the game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning, while junior Jordan Ingalls went 3-for-4 with triple, drove in a run and scored the eventual game-winning run.
Ingalls and Rumph also went 3-for-4 against Fairleigh Dickinson. Ingalls belted a two-run home run and drove in three runs against the Knights.
Trailing 4-3 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, senior Kristina Rendle, who extended her hitting streak to 16 games, began the rally with a single to center field. Ingalls singled down the left-field line and Rumph singled home Rendle with the game-tying run.
Rumph then purposely got caught in a run-down between first and second long enough for Ingalls to score the go-ahead run.
Sophomore Hana Somogyi, who picked up her fifth win of the season, shut down the Saints in the top half of the seventh.
The Guins jumped on the board in the first Haley Thomas single then scored on an Ingalls single to center field.
The Saint plated three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead, but the Guins added one in the fourth and another in the fifth to knot the game at 3-3.
In the third, Rumph doubled home Ingalls, who reached on a fielder's choice, then Ingalls led off the fifth with a triple and scored on Rumph's single up the middle.
In the first game, the Guins squandered a 6-0 lead and allowed Fairleigh Dickinson an eight-run inning that included a two-run home run and a grand slam.
The Guins used a four-run third inning keyed by a run-scoring double by Thomas, and an RBI-single by Ingalls and two-run single by Rumph.
Ingalls belted a two-run blast in the fifth to put the Guins ahead 6-0.
The Guins take on Bucknell and Colgate, Friday, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, to close out the Rebel Games.
