Box Score Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- For the second straight
day, No. 19 College of Charleston built a first-inning lead and put
the game out of reach late in a 15-0 win over the Youngstown State
baseball team on Saturday at Patriots Point.
The Cougars scored three runs in the first, then scored 10 runs
in the sixth and seventh innings. They scored four runs in the
first in Friday's opener and, identical to today, scored three in
the sixth and seven in the seventh.
Five different players had hits for YSU. Matt Leeds had two
hits, scored three times and was one of four players with two RBIs
for CofC.
Leeds and Daniel Aldrich had RBI singles, and Jamie Holler was
credited with an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases
loaded. YSU starter kept the Cougars from scoring again until they
added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Cougars loaded the bases without a recording a hit in the
sixth, and Jose Rodriguez's two-run double made the score 7-0.
Aldrich added the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly. CofC
then scored seven runs on four hits, two hit batsmen and two walks
in the seventh. Brandon Glazer hit a two-run homer in the
frame.
Youngstown State had plenty of opportunities offensively but
couldn't capitalize. David Leon hit a leadoff double in the first
and was stranded there, and Greg Dissinger was thrown out at the
plate on Chris Mitko's to end the second. The Penguins then had the
bases loaded with two outs in the third and were turned away.
Jonathan Crist led off the seventh with a double and was thrown out
at third to end the inning.
McCulloh was charged with the loss, allowing four earned runs on
six hits in 4.2 innings.
Josh Renfro improved to 2-0 for Charleston, allowing four hits
and a walk while striking out six in six innings.
The Penguins and Cougars will play the series finale on Sunday
at 1 p.m.
