Greenville, N.C. -- East Carolina scored all of its runs in the middle three innings and took advantage of four Youngstown State errors to finish the series sweep with a 10-0 victory over the Penguins on Sunday at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.

YSU's Jeremy Banks had two hits while Padraic Williams and Drew Dosch combined for three scoreless innings of relief at the end of the game. Williams, a sophomore making his second career trip to the mound, struck out three and did not allow a hit in two innings. Dosch, a freshman, struck out one and allowed one hit in his first career appearance.

Dosch and Williams also both singled, and Neil Schroth added a single for the Penguins, who finished with five hits.

Philip Clark had two hits and drove in two runs for East Carolina.

"Errors definitely hurt us the middle three innings, and we need to clean that up before next weekend," head coach Rich Pasquale said. "We also need to take care of walks."

"Williams did a nice job in the sixth and seventh, and Dosch was solid in the eighth. If we can tighten things up with a good week of practice, we will be ready to go."

YSU sophomore starter Robert Switka, making his first collegiate start, held the Pirates scoreless for three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. He retired the first batter, but John Wooten reached on an error. A wild pitch and a single put runners on the corners, and a bunt single brought in the first run. A sacrifice bunt brought in the second run, and Trent Whitehead made it a four-run inning with a two-out, two-run single up the middle.

Two of those runs were unearned, and the Pirates got another unearned tally in the fifth. Chase McDonald reached on an error to star the inning, and Wooten followed with an RBI triple to right center. Zach Wright followed with an RBI double, and he scored when Clark singled off reliever Cody Dearth.

The first four Pirates batters reached in the sixth, and an RBI double by Corey Thompson and a two-run homer by McDonald gave ECU its 10-0 margin. Williams came in with a runner on first, and he recorded two strikeouts while Craig Goubeaux threw out a runner trying to steal second.

Mike Wright earned the win for the Pirates, surrendering three hits and a walk in five innings. Five relievers combined to pitch the next four innings.

Switka was charged with the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in four innings.

Youngstown State will be back in action on Friday at the College of Charleston. First pitch in the opener of the three-game series is scheduled for 5 p.m.
