Egler Posts a Double-Double in YSU's Close Loss to Green Bay

Youngstown -- Youngstown State freshman outside hitter Alexis Egler had 13 kills and 11 digs in YSU's closely contested 3-1 loss to Green Bay (28-26, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18) on Friday night at Beeghly Center.
Egler recorded her third double-double in the last four matches. Jackie Carlisle added 12 kills while Missy Hundelt and Shannon Watson had 10 kills apiece. Watson added four blocks, which tied for a match high, and setter Casey D'Ambrose notched 15 digs.
Carmen Leitermann had 18 kills, and Brittany Groth posted 22 digs for Green Bay, which clinched a spot in the Horizon League Tournament with the victory.
YSU was much more competitive against the Phoenix this time than when the teams played on Oct. 5. In that match, Green Bay won 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 and held the Penguins to a -.010 attack percentage. Tonight, YSU hit .191 as a team despite hitting .000 in the final set.
The Penguins had two set points in the opening set, but Green Bay scored four of the final five points. YSU also led 23-22 in the second set before the Phoenix scored the last three points, two of which came on kills from Abbey Gitter. Hundelt's attempt 10-feet from the net went long on set point.
YSU went on a 6-1 run in the fourth after the score was tied 15-15. Green Bay never got closer than four after the run. The fourth set was tied at 10-10 when Green Bay scored five straight points and never led by fewer than three the rest of the way.
Youngstown State will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against Loyola at 2 p.m. Seniors Brittany Grove and Bri Kern will be recognized prior to the match in what will be their final competition as members of the program.
