
Volleyball Beats Loyola 3-1 on Senior Day, 2011 Finale

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State volleyball team hit .209 as a team and got 20 kills from Missy Hundelt in a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18) over Loyola on Senior Day and the 2011 season finale at Beeghly Center. The Penguins finished the year winning two of their final three matches.
In addition to Hundelt, four other Penguins posted at least seven kills. Jackie Carlisle had 12, Nichele Johnson and Shannon Watson had nine, and Alexis Egler posted seven. Hundelt added 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the campaign, and senior Bri Kern finished with 13 digs. Fellow senior Brittany Grove had seven digs.
YSU, which completed the season 5-24 overall and 3-13 in the Horizon League, had 19 more kills, 20 more assists, five more aces, five more digs and one more block than Loyola.
Mary Kate Styler had 13 kills, and Cat Languido posted a match-high 22 digs for Loyola, which finished the season 4-22 overall and 1-15 in Horizon League play.
YSU never trailed in the opening set and opened up an 18-9 lead after a Casey D'Ambrose ace.Loyola got no closer than seven points the rest of the set. The Penguins had to fight in the second set, trailing by as many as three at 8-5 in the second set. A Johnson kill gave YSU a 12-11 lead, and YSU did not trail again. Loyola tied the score at 22-22 following a block by Libby Bresser and Vicki Wrobel, but a Hundelt kill, a D'Ambrose ace and an attack error from Styer gave the Penguins a 25-22 win.
Chelsea Guerrieri's serve gave YSU a 5-2 lead in the third, but Loyola scored three straight points to tie the set at 5-5. The Ramblers then went on a 5-0 run and led by as many as eight late en route to its 25-19 win.
The Penguins opened up a 10-3 lead behind Egler's serve in the fourth set, and they led 19-9 following a Hundelt kill. The Ramblers were only able to get within seven.
