Volleyball Ends Road Trip With Loss at Valpo

Valparaiso, Ind. -- The Youngstown State volleyball team got nine kills and 15 digs from sophomore Missy Hundelt in a 3-0 loss at Valparaiso, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics- Recreation Center.
Valparaiso had nine team blocks and 52 digs in limiting the Penguins to a .076 attack percentage. Seven different Crusaders had at least four kills, and Valpo hit .229 as a team.
Valpo pulled away early in the first set and had late runs in the final two sets.
In the first, Valpo went on a 7-1 run behind the serves of Sarah Dooms and Taylor Root. The Crusaders led 13-5 before YSU climbed to within 14-10 after a Dooms attack error. From there, Valpo scored four straight points and did not allow YSU to get closer than five points the rest of the way.
After YSU led 3-0 and 4-1, Valpo took a 15-11 lead following a 6-2 run. YSU closed the gap to 15-14 on a Dooms error, and an Alexis Egler kill made the score 16-15. Valpo outscored the Penguins 9-4 the rest of the set.
YSU led 7-4 in the third, but Valpo rallied to take an 11-9 lead following a Jackie Carlisle attack error. YSU tied the score at 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17 before the Crusaders ended the set on an 8-1 run.
Youngstown State will host Butler on Friday at 7 p.m. at Beeghly Center. The match will be the Penguins' “Dig Pink” match where they will raise funds for breast cancer.
