Green Bay's Strong Block Results in Sweep of YSU

Green Bay, Wis. -- Green Bay registered 13 blocks to hold the Youngstown State volleyball team to a negative hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of the Penguins on Wednesday evening at the Kress Events Center.
Green Bay got eight blocks from Kelly Mischler and 12 kills from Carlie Willison en route to winning 25-18, 25-22, 25-15. Missy Hundelt (St. Charles, Mo.) had eight kills and nine digs to lead Youngstown State.
Green Bay had side outs on 73 percent of its chances in the opening set and led throughout. A block of Hundelt by Lyndsay Zabkowicz and Carmen Leitermann made the score 4-1, and, YSU got no closer than 4-3. An Abby Gitter kill capped a 6-3 run that made the score 16-11, and Green Bay went on to score six of the next seven points to go up 22-12.
Both teams hit negative in the second set, but Green Bay was able to build an early lead and hang on to win 25-22. The Phoenix scored the first seven points and led 9-1 before YSU scored on six straight on Hundelt's serve. Green Bay built its lead back to 21-12, but Hundelt's serve resulted in another big run that made the score 21-19. YSU also trailed 24-22 before a Rachel Gambow service error ended the set.
YSU led 3-0 in the third set and didn't trail until a block by Mischler and Gitter put Green Bay up 9-8. The Phoenix did not trail again and closed out the match on a 13-5 run. Mischler had four of her blocks in the final set.
Youngstown State will stay on the road for two more matches this week. Its next match is at UIC on Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern.
