Hundelt Gets 15 More Kills as Volleyball Falls in Four to Niagara

Youngstown -- Niagara used a balanced attack and overcame 15 kills from Youngstown State's Marissa Hundelt to win a tightly contest match, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 21-25, 24-26), on Saturday at the YSU Invitational.
Four different Purple Eagles reached double digits in kills, and one more had nine. Niagara posted 63 kills as a team and overcame 10 blocks for the Penguins. YSU had 45 kills and posted a .200 attack percentage, which is its second-best mark of the year.
The match featured 23 ties and 12 lead changes, and the final scores were all in the twenties after Niagara took the first set 25-14.
No team led by more than three the entire second set, and YSU trailed 22-21 before scoring four of the final five points. Shannon Ryan's service error gave the Guins a side out, and Hundelt scored the next two points on a solo block and a kill. She also finished the match on a kill, which was her sixth of the set.
Niagara had 17 kills in the third set to win 25-21. The Purple Eagles trailed 15-11, but they went on an 8-2 run to go up 19-17. YSU scored the next point to get the deficit to one but never was able to tie it.
Niagara led 23-19 in the fourth set, but YSU was able rally and tie the score at 24 on a Brianna Kern kill. Amanda Wilken had a kill to make the score 25-24, and Tasha Reid's off-balanced attempt went into the net on match point.
The Penguins play Central Michigan Saturday at 7 p.m. in the final match of the invitational.
