Guins Try to Stay in Winners' Bracket Tonight vs. Wright State

Gary, Ind. -- The Youngstown State baseball team will try to advance in the winners' bracket of the 2010 Horizon League Baseball Championship presented by U.S. Army this evening when it plays top-seeded Wright State tonight at 8 Eastern. The Penguins are coming off a 8-4 victory over UIC on Wednesday, and the Raiders are playing their first game of the tournament. YSU and Wright State have never played in the Horizon League tournament. The Penguins went 0-5 against the Raiders during the regular season.
On the Mound
Senior Corey Vukovic will start on the mound for YSU. Vukovic has started two games this season and has a 6.60 ERA in 15 innings. He has made one start in the conference tournament in his career, throwing 3.1 innings in a losing effort against Milwaukee as a freshman in 2007. He'll be countered by second-team all-league pitcher Alex Kaminsky. Earlier this season, Kaminsky allowed six runs on 10 hits while striking out 11 against the Penguins to earn the win.
Scouting Wright State
Wright State won the Horizon League regular-season title, finishing 29-23 overall and 17-6 in league play. The Raiders led the league in batting average, on-base percentage, runs, hits and RBIs during the regular season, and they hit .375 in conference games. In Wright State's five wins against YSU, two were by one run and another came in extra innings.
Notes from Wednesday's Win vs. UIC
- Jacke Healey set a new school record for RBIs in a season, posting his 59th of 2010.
- Aaron Swenson improved to 8-1 for the season. He became the fourth pitcher in school history to record eight wins in a season and the first since Kyle Sobecki in 2000. Swenson set a new school record for innings in a season with 99.2. He also held the old record of 99.0 with Lucas Engle.
- Youngstown State improved to 8-5 all-time as the lower seed in the Horizon League tournament.
- The Penguins set new school single-season records for runs with 408.
