Ingalls Seven Hits, 14-Run Inning Leads Softball to Doubleheader Sweep at Detroit

Detroit, Mich. -- Sophomore Jordan Ingalls tied a school record with four hits in game one and added three more in the nightcap to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a doubleheader sweep against Detroit, 14-1, 11-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark.
The Penguins, who improve to 11-22 overall and 4-4 in the Horizon League, scored 14 runs in the top of the first inning of game one led by two-run home runs by junior Kim Klonowski and Ingalls, who went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs.
Besides her two-run home run, Ingalls also drove in two more with a two-out single in her second at-bat in the inning.
Also collected run-scoring singles in the top of the first were junior Kristina Rendle, sophomore Vicky Rumph, senior Autumn Grove and freshman Sarah Gabel.
Overall, the Penguins tallied 14 hits in the opener.
In the night cap, the Penguins, who cranked out 15 hits, struck quickly again scoring six runs in the top of the first inning and added three more in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Ingalls and Rumph each went 3-for-4 while Rendle, Klonowski and Gabel posted two hits apiece.
Senior Cheryl Cale picked up her fifth victory of the season by striking out five and allowing five hits.
The Penguins and Titans conclude the three-game series with a single game, Thursday, at 4 p.m.
