Softball Bangs Out 15 Hits in 11-5 Win Over Wagner

Orlando, Fla. -- Junior Kim Klonowski, sophomore Kristen Philen and freshman Vicky Rumph posted three hits apiece and the Youngstown State softball team blasted a total of 15 hits en route to an 11-5 rain-shortened win over Wagner on Thursday morning at the Rebel Games. YSU's game against Bryant was rained out.
Klonowski went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and five runs batted in and Philen went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted while Rumph drove in two runs with three singles.
Junior Danielle Chase pitched 2.2 innings of relief to pick up her first win of the season.
The Penguins jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with a five-run first inning sparked by two-run home run by Klonowski, her first of the season, a run-scoring single by Rumph, an RBI-double by Philen and a run-producing single from sophomore Amanda Palmore.
Philen's two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the second gave the Penguins a 6-0 lead and their four-run third inning made the score 10-0 after three innings.
In the third, Klonowski drove in freshman Sarah Gabel, who walked, and Thomas while Rumph's infield single plated junior Kristina Rendle. Philen drove in her third run of the game with a single down the left-field line to score pinch-runner Kristina Davidson with the Guins' 10th run.
After Wagner scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning, Klonowski doubled home Thomas to put the Guins back up seven runs, 11-4.
Wagner added another run in the top of the sixth.
The Penguins face La Salle and Florida A&M, Friday, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, to close out the Rebel Games.
