
Volleyball's Season Ends With 3-0 Loss at Wright State

Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State volleyball team's 2010 season completed on Saturday as the Penguins dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) match at Wright State.
Senior Haley Kapferer posted a match-best four blocks and tied for the team high with five kills in her final collegiate match. Marissa Hundelt and Tasha Reid also had five kills for YSU.
Shaunda Sandifer had a match-high 14 kills for Wright State, and Heidi Splinter added 12. Wright State had four players reach double figures in digs, and the Raiders outhit YSU .307 to .100.
Neither team led by more than two in the opening set until a Sandfier kill capped a 6-0 run for Wright State that gave it a 15-9 lead. A Kelsi Bitter kill Youngstown State's deficit to 16-14, and she combined with Kapferer on a block to give the Penguins an 18-17 advantage. Wright State answered by scoring the next six points, five of which came on kills, to go up 23-18. YSU got no closer than 24-21 before a service error gave Wright State the set.
The Penguins scored the first three points and jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set behind Jenna Cavanaugh and Hundelt. The combined for two blocks, and they both had a kill during the start. YSU led until Wright State tied the score at 7-7, and the Penguins didn't trail until an Alaina McAuley kill made the score 11-10. YSU's Tasha Reid had a kill to keep the Penguins within two at 17-15, but Wright State scored four straight points to go up 22-16 and won the second set 25-18.
YSU also jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set, but Wright State scored the next four points to go up 5-4 after a Sandifer kill and never trailed again. A Kapferer and Dani Soubliere block kept YSU within two at 15-13, but Wright State scored the next three points to go up 18-13. The Raiders also scored four straight to go up 22-14, and they won 25-16.
