Volleyball Falls in Three at Butler

Indianapolis -- Butler hit .297 as a team and got 25 combined kills from Maureen Bamiro and Jessica Wolfe to defeat the Youngstown State volleyball team in three sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-14) on Friday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Jenna Cavanaugh had a career-high nine kills, and Haley Kapferer and Kelsi Bitter had eight kills apiece to lead Youngstown State. Bitter's eight kills were a season best. Casey D'Ambrose had 13 digs, and Kapferer added three digs.
Butler led 13-2 in the first set after a Wolfe kill, but Youngstown State went on a 12-3 run to cut the margin to 17-14 on a Jalesa Lee error. Butler, though, scored four of the next five points to go up 21-15 after back-to-back Wolfe kills. Wolfe had another kill, her eighth of the set, to close out the first set at 25-19.
Wolfe was held to one kill in the second set, and Youngstown State trailed just 13-11 after a Bamiro error. Maureen Nesbit had a kill to give the Bulldogs a sideout, and she had service aces on three of the next four points as Butler went up 18-11. The Bulldogs led by as many as 22-12 before YSU shortened up the margin late.
The Bulldogs opened up a 13-3 lead in the third set and got five kills from Bamiro in the third set to win 25-14.
Youngstown State will close out the 2010 season on Saturday at Wright State. First serve against the Raiders is set for 4 p.m.
