Women's Basketball: Penguins Host UW-Milwaukee in Home Finale

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team (7-16, 5-7 Horizon League) plays its regular-season home finale when it entertains UW-Milwaukee (11-13, 7-4 Horizon League), Saturday, Feb. 17.

Tipoff is slated for 2:05 p.m. at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio, and is part of a women's and men's basketball doubleheader.

The Penguins, who are 5-5 over their last 10 games, are currently tied for fifth place in the Horizon League standings but could vault the Raiders for sole possession of fifth with a victory over the Panthers. With a victory over UW-Milwaukee, the Penguins would also move just a game-and-a-half behind the Panthers in the league standings.

The Panthers are currently tied for fourth in the Horizon League standings with Butler with 7-4 league records.

In its last outing, The Youngstown State women's basketball team put a scare into 25th-ranked UW-Green Bay on Thursday night at the Beeghly Center, but the Phoenix were able to pull out a 74-62 victory over the Penguins. Junior guard Heather Karner scored 17 points to lead four Penguins who finished in double figures. Velissa Vaughn had 13, Monique Godfrey contributed 12 and Jessica Schloemp contributed 11.

Sophomore Traci Edwards leads the Panthers and the Horizon League with 20.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game but is the only Panther averaging double figures in scoring.

UWM swept the season series last year but the Penguins won both contests in 2004-05. Earlier this season, UW-Milwaukee defeated the Penguins, 60-44, at the Klotsche Center on Jan. 18.
