Sam Ott joined the Youngstown State volleyball staff as a graduate assistant in January 2025.
Ott is a Northeast Ohio native who was a mainstay at Horizon League member Wright State from 2021-24.
?“I am so excited to welcome Sam to our Penguin Volleyball Staff as a Graduate Assistant,” YSU head coach Riley Jarrett Said. “She is from Northeast Ohio, so I know she will bring great ties to the area with recruiting. Also playing for Wright State, she is familiar with our league and knows what it takes to win at a high level. We are looking forward to adding her energy and knowledge to our program.”
Ott played a big role for the Raiders as they won four Horizon League regular-season championships and made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament in her five-year career.
As a fifth-year senior, Ott was named to the All-Horizon League First Team while ranking among the top eight players in the conference in kills and aces per set. Additionally, she was a member of the league’s all-academic team and the all-tournament team as the Raiders finished 24-7 overall and 16-2 in conference play.
Ott played in 137 matches in her Wright State career, and the Raiders went 114-32 overall and 77-8 in conference matches in her tenure. Ott finished with career totals of 1,200 kills, 111 aces, 974 digs and 118 blocks.
Ott is a native of the Cleveland suburb of Parma, and she helped guide Padua Franciscan to a 28-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in the nation for 10 straight weeks on prepvolleyball.com her senior year of high school. The team won two Division II state titles and finished as the runners-up during her career.
