Michele Barletta is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Youngstown State women’s soccer program.

Prior to joining the Penguins, Barletta spent two seasons at Quincy as a graduate assistant and assistant coach from 2023-24.

At Quincy, he coached for both the men’s and women’s soccer squads and mentored the GLVC top goalkeepers in George Roke and Julia Mincher. Last season, Mincher led the conference and ranked fourth nationally in total saves with 98 while Mincher led the league and ranked 24th in saves with 101.

He also served as an assistant and goalkeeper coach for the Erie Commodores Senior men's and women's teams of the NPSL and UWS leagues in the summer of 2023. 

In addition to the Commodores, Barletta was the assistant coach of two Quincy Rush College Prep teams (u17 and u19) in 2023 and became the head coach of both teams in 2024. 

Barletta played his final collegiate season at Southern Nazarene University in 2022, helping lead them to a GAC regular season title, conference championship and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance.

He garnered an All-GAC Honorable Mention nod, along with GAC/MIAA All-Tournament Team, D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team, conference goalkeeper of the week and GAC Student Athlete of the Year for the sport of soccer with a 3.9 GPA.

A member of the Quincy soccer team from 2018-21, Barletta manned the goal for 23 matches compiling a 10-6-2 overall record and recording 58 saves. 

Before his time at Quincy, Barletta excelled as a youth soccer player in his home country of South Africa. As a product of the Bidvest Wits and Mpumalanga Black Aces Youth Academy, he earned a place in the Premier Soccer Reserve League at the age of just 16, making him the leagues youngest footballer at the time.

Barletta holds a USSF D License as well as a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Level 1 License., and he holds a level one license from United Soccer Coaches as a goalkeeping Coach. 

Barletta earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Multimedia Journalism and Broadcasting, graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors, and earned a master’s in business administration from Quincy in December of 2024.
