Megan Giesen

Megan Giesen

Entering her third year as an assistant coach with the Youngstown State women's soccer program is Megan Giesen.

Last season, Geisen was instrumental in guiding Marissa Martin to a position change that produced impressive results. Martin, a defender for two seasons, led the team with seven goals and ranked second with 14 total points. She was also named All-Horizon League Second-Team.

Larsen Murvin, a defender, was named to the All-Freshman Team after appearing in 15 matches and recording two assists.

The Penguins scored 19 goals and added 18 assists, the fifth most in a single-season, for a total of 56 points.

Giesen joined the YSU staff in 2015, when the Penguins won seven games, the second most in a season in school history. The Guins also played 11 one-goal games out of 18 contests during the campaign.

Giesen was a four-year letterwinner at Buffalo from 2011-14 and appeared in 77 matches during her career. She also started 56 times and was named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Freshman Team in 2011.

During her career, she scored four goals and four assists for a total of 12 points and took 67 shots. She scored two goals with an assist during her freshman season and had two goals as a junior.

She also helped the Bulls to the 2014 MAC regular-season and tournament championships with a 16-3-3 record and a berth to the NCAA Regional Tournament.

Giesen also served on UB's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for four years and was named to the Executive Board as the Secretary Officer as a senior.

Giesen graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and human services from Buffalo in 2015.
