Jeff Wills

Jeff Wills

Jeff Wills, a 1998 Youngstown State graduate, serves as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Penguins.

Wills spent his first eight seasons at YSU as the athletic trainer for the women's basketball and the tennis programs. He is in his fifth season as the trainer for the soccer team in 2020-21. Wills also assists Head Athletic Trainer Ethan Solger with various other duties and oversees the men's and women's swimming and diving program training needs.

The women's basketball program advanced to the postseason in three of Wills' final four seasons with the program. The Penguins competed in the Women's NIT in 2013 and 2015, and they reached the semifinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2016. The women's tennis team won three straight Horizon League championships in 2014-16.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Wills worked as an athletic trainer on the scholastic level from 1999 to 2008. He spent four years as an athletic trainer for Hubbard Exempted Village Public Schools, and he was also was an athletic trainer for Salem City Schools and Warren City Schools.

Wills has an extensive athletic training background. Prior to joining the YSU staff, he spent two years at Action Physical Therapy in Hubbard. He worked for two years in the Sharon Regional Health System while also working as a fitness and health instructor on the high-school level.

Wills is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association owns and Ohio OT/PT/AT License and is American Heart Association CPR and AED certified.

While attending YSU as a student trainer, he was a two-time recipient of the Willard Webster Outstanding Student Trainer Award. He also helped the Ohio Department of Education develop the ITAC for Fitness/Sports Medicine careers.

Jeff and his wife, Lita, reside in Warren.
