The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the creation of the The Louise Fiess Wolf Memorial Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
The Louise Fiess Wolf Memorial Scholarship was established this fall to support Youngstown State University women’s student-athletes. The family of Louise Fiess Wolf has established this scholarship as a memorial to her for providing them the love, strength, support, and faith that made a difference in their lives.
She was a 1931 graduate of The Rayen High School and a sports fan her entire life. This scholarship is dedicated to her as a lasting symbol of their appreciation for all she provided.
“The Wolf Family has over a 100-year history and love for the Valley and its community,” her son Brian Wolf Sr., said. “We have always been passionate about Youngstown State University's athletic programs and we are proud to perpetuate Louise's Legacy with this scholarship.”
The scholarship endowment will be awarded to a women’s student-athlete enrolled in the Williamson College of Business Administration. The first recipient of the award is senior swimmer Stefane van Niekerk. Niekerk is a native of Cape Town, South Africa, who is majoring in Human Resources Management.
Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said Louise Fiess Wolf and her family have been strong pillars of the community.
“Louise and the Wolf family have always been very active in the Youngstown community,” McFadden said. “They have raised an outstanding family who continue to give generous to others as they follow the example made for them by two outstanding parents.”
