The Youngstown State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the creation of the Dr. James and Mary Ann Tavolario Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Dr. James and Mary Ann Tavolario are strong supporters of YSU and its athletic programs. Jim, a retired podiatrist, and Mary Ann, a retired Boardman teacher, are committed to extending the academic and athletic opportunities for young people attending YSU.
Both YSU graduates, they appreciate the importance of Youngstown State University and its impact on its students and the community. Jim, a Penguin Club member, past President, and currently serving on the board, and Mary Ann hope that their contribution will foster the future success of its recipients.
They have been fixtures at YSU football and basketball games for many years and Penguins fans affectionately refer to Jim as “Dr. Tav”.
The scholarship endowment will be awarded to a member of the women’s basketball team or the men’s golf team. The scholarship will alternate annually between the two sports.
“We are very proud to support YSU and its athletic programs,” the Tavolario’s said. “We wish continued success to the scholarship recipients.”
Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said the Tavalario’s have been die-hard fans for years and it is special to have them recognized with a scholarship endowment.
“The Tavolario’s are tremendous people and we love seeing them at our events,” McFadden said. “They have been involved with YSU athletics for as long as I can remember. They are gracious fans and we are thrilled that they have endowed an Athletic Scholarship.”
