The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics is proud to announce the continued development of the
State Farm Insurance Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics
Scholarship Fund.
This scholarship, established by the State Farm agents in
Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in the summer of 2009,
is awarded annually to a student-athlete. The recipient is from one
of the three counties and has the career goal to be a leader in the
business field. State Farm agents contribute on a daily basis to
their individual communities, YSU and to the futures of families
and children in the Mahoning Valley.
The 2011-12 recipient of the State Farm Insurance Scholarship is
incoming softball player Brooke Meenachan, a native of Boardman,
Ohio.
"Youngstown State University is a large, positive aspect of our
community," said Jim Leugers, an agent out of North Lima. "With the
State Farm Insurance Scholarship, we make an impact on the
student-athletes at the university and contribute to the success
they strive for every day. Our scholarship allows us to become
involved in the community and help foster the winning attitude that
YSU continues to promote throughout the area."
The eleven agents who endowed this scholarship are Kathy
Thomas-Casey, Jan Cefalu, Tom Danko, Ray Fallen, Tania Howell, Phil
Irwin, Derek Knepper, Leugers, Ed LeViseur, Jim Noel and Dan
Sabol.
“The State Farm Scholarship is a perfect example of
teamwork, so it is truly fitting that this endowment benefits
student athletes at YSU," Director of Athletic Development Joe
Cassese said. "Due to the generosity and commitment of eleven State
Farm agents our student athletes will be forever positively
impacted by the State Farm Scholarship.”
