The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics is pleased to announce the creation of the Garry and
Wanda Mrozek Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship
Endowment Fund.
The 2014-15 recipient of the Garry and Wanda Mrozek Scholarship
is track and field student-athlete Jacob Chiclowe. Chiclowe, a
native of nearby Mineral Ridge, is a thrower for the men’s
track and field program. As a sophomore, he finished fifth at the
Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the discus.
At the indoor meet, he was sixth in the shot put and ninth in the
weight throw.
This scholarship was established by Garry and Wanda Mrozek,
prominent members of the Youngstown business community and
long-time YSU Penguins fans. The Mrozeks have created this
endowment in the hope that a deserving YSU student-athlete may have
the opportunity to obtain a quality education and enjoy success at
their alma mater, Youngstown State University. Annually, the
student-athlete recipient will be a business major from any sport
and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 or above.
Garry Mrozek earned his bachelor's degree in business
administration management in 1982 and an MBA in finance in 1988
from Youngstown State University. Additionally, he was honored as
YSU Distinguished MBA Alumnus in 1998. He had a 30-year banking
career, the last eight years of which he served as a regional
president of PNC Bank.
The Mrozeks own Hometown Pharmacy Solutions which was founded in
1999 where Garry serves as the company’s CEO. Hometown
Pharmacy Solutions is a multi-faceted pharmacy company with retail
locations in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, as well as,
owned and managed long-term care pharmacies and retail and
compounding pharmacy divisions.
“Youngtown State is an important part of our community,"
Garry Mrozek said. "This endowment is a means to help young,
student-athletes achieve success. Wanda and I are honored to give
back to the University that has had such a positive impact on
myself and my family over the years.”
Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said the
continuing support offered to their alma maters by the Mrozeks is
very much appreciated by the university.
“Garry and Wanda have been strong supporters of the
community,” McFadden said. “Garry has been very active
with his alma mater YSU, he was formerly the President of the
Alumni Society and in August will become Board Chair of the
YSU Foundation. YSU and the community are lucky Garry and
Wanda call Youngstown home."
