Athletic Department Announces Mincey Family Scholarship Endowment

The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the creation of the Mincey Family Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.

Dr. Daryl and Vicki Mincey, their daughter, Maribeth, and son-in-law, Michael, have been long-time supporters of all YSU Athletic programs.

Dr. Daryl Mincey is an Emeritus Chair of the Chemistry Department and a long-time volunteer, particularly as a photographer, with the Athletic Department.  He has been with the University community for thirty-seven years.  Vicki Mincey is a life-long resident of Youngstown and a MBA graduate of the Williamson School of Business.

In 2013, the Mincey Family was honored as the Penguin of the Year by the Penguin Club at the annual Scholarship/Ring Banquet. Daryl has missed one football game, home or away,  over the past 22 years. He and Vicki have attended countless men’s and women’s basketball games while the three of them traveled all over the country when Maribeth was younger. The family has been to all six National Championship Games.

The first preference for the scholarship is to be awarded to a football student-athlete majoring in Chemistry. Additional eligibility will include a student-athlete majoring in chemistry or a football student-athlete majoring in a program within the College of STEM. The scholarship endowment recipient must complete their freshman year at YSU with a minimum 3.2 GPA.

"The scholarship is our way of saying thank you to the university community and all the friends that we have met over the years through our association with penguin athletics." Dr. Mincey said. "We trust that this support will assist future student-athletes in representing this institution with distinction."

Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said the Mincey’s have always played a key role in the success of Youngstown State University.

“The Mincey family has been so supportive of Youngstown State University and we are honored to have them endow a scholarship,” McFadden said. “They support YSU academics and athletics in so many ways that go unnoticed. The student-athlete who receives this scholarship will benefit greatly from their generosity.”
