The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the creation of the Michael A. LaRocca Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
The Michael A. LaRocca Scholarship will be awarded to a YSU student-athlete for the first time in 2015. The endowment will be awarded to a student-athlete who is enrolled in YSU’s Williamson College of Business. Preference will be given to a member of the football program, but all student-athletes will be considered.
This scholarship was established by LaRocca, a 1978 graduate of YSU, to provide an opportunity for a student-athlete to obtain a quality education and enjoy success at his alma mater. He has been a long-time Penguin fan and resident of the Mahoning Valley.
LaRocca received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978 majoring in Political Science and Accounting and earned his MBA in Finance and Accounting in 1980 from Youngstown State University. A non-practicing member of the AICPA, he has been a licensed securities representative since 1988. Currently, he is a Vice President-Investment Officer and Quantitative Choice Portfolio Manager with Wells Fargo Advisors.
LaRocca said he has enjoyed being a fan of Youngstown State athletic teams and is excited to contribute by endowing a scholarship.
LaRocca said that his education at Youngstown State University gave him the fundamentals to launch his career. This scholarship allowed him to express his gratitude to the university and provide others with a similar opportunity.
Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said LaRocca is a YSU success story having excelled in the business world after receiving his education from the school.
“Michael has a first-class work ethic and those values are something he learned growing up in the Mahoning Valley and attending Youngstown State University,” McFadden said. “It is very thoughtful of him to assist his alma mater with a scholarship endowment. We are thrilled to have him make an impact on the life of a student-athlete.”
