The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the Jim and Kerry Homa Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
This scholarship was established by Jim and Kerry Homa, who are both 1996 graduates of Youngstown State University.
A native of nearby Howland, Jim Homa was a member of the YSU football team under legendary coach Jim Tressel.
Homa is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Foundation Health Services. Foundation Health Services is a premier long-term care company which manages 57 nursing homes throughout Ohio. With strong Christian values and heritage, Foundations Health Solutions is committed to serving our communities with the highest level of clinical excellence and resident satisfaction, along with a strong employee culture which places priority and resources on the direct caregiving team.
In 2018, Foundations Health Services won the gold award innovation and technology with McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards.
The Homa’s have established this scholarship in order that a member of the football program will go on to help those in their community at the most vulnerable times of their lives. They believe that the modern-day student-athlete must believe in a “Culture of Care” in order to succeed in life.
The annual scholarship endowment will be awarded to a student-athlete on the YSU football team. Preference will be given to a student-athlete studying Nursing or Long-Team Care Administration.
Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said that Jim and Kerry take great pride in establishing a scholarship endowment at their alma mater.
“Jim and Kerry are fantastic, hard-working people who have made a big difference in the Mahoning Valley and Ohio," McFadden said. “They have made caregiving a top priority and have always looked out for the wellbeing of people. Their scholarship endowment will benefit a student-athlete with like-minded goals to help people.”
