Youngstown – The Youngstown State
University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to
announce the development of the Debra L. Hinkle Athletic
Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Fund.
This scholarship is in honor of Mrs. Debra Hinkle and created by
her husband, David, daughters, Dannielle and Deanna, and son,
Dustin.
The recipient of this scholarship shall be a football
student-athlete majoring in education or a technology-related
field. The recipient shall show a commitment to education and
family while demonstrating optimism in the face of adversity and
recognizing the importance of his team.
"Youngstown State athletics has had a great and positive
influence on our family over the years," David Hinkle said. "We
wish to support a football student-athlete focused on education and
technology."
The Hinkle Family has also partnered with the YSU Football
Alumni Group to create the 2011 Debra L. Hinkle Football Alumni
Group Bocce Tournament.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Debra L. Hinkle and
Football Alumni scholarships at Youngstown State.
"It is special to have a Penguin Club board member and his
family contribute to a scholarship in honor of their wife and
mother," YSU Director of Athletic Development Joe Cassese said.
"What makes the Debra L. Hinkle Scholarship so unique is the
community involvement through the bocce tournament that will allow
the endowment to grow."
