Hammond Family Valley Industrial Trucks Scholarship to Benefit Female Student-Athlete

The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the Hammond Family Valley Industrial Trucks Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.

This scholarship was established by Jim Hammond, President and Owner of Valley Industrial Trucks. Valley Industrial Trucks has operated in Youngstown, Ohio since 1956. They are a full service material handling company specializing in forklift trucks, utility vehicles, material handling equipment, lift truck attachments and storage products.

Hammond is a 1988 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He also graduated from Youngstown State University in 1993 with a BSBA from the Williamson College of Business. This scholarship is symbolic of Valley Industrial Trucks’ commitment and dedication to the Mahoning Valley. The Hammond family is honored to endow this scholarship in support of Penguin athletics. Jim and his wife, Kerry, reside in Canfield. They are the proud parents of daughters, Mackenzie and Madison.

This scholarship endowment will go to a YSU women’s student-athlete who is enrolled in the Williamson College of Business.

The first YSU student-athlete recipient of the scholarship endowment is women’s golfer Kara Raines. Raines, a freshman from Galena, Ohio, is majoring in International Business.

“Education has played a huge role in our success,” Hammond said. “Kerry and I are proud to support our community, YSU athletics and YSU academics through this endeavor. We look forward to building upon the Hammond Family Scholarship for many years. Go Penguins!”

Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said the Hammond Family has been very supportive of Youngstown State University and its Athletics programs.

“Jim and his family have worked very hard to be successful while being very supportive of the local community,” McFadden said. “Kerry and Jim have a strong commitment to the Mahoning Valley and we are very fortunate to have them endow a scholarship here at Youngstown State.”
