The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics is proud to announce the creation of the Don DeLorenzo
Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment
Fund.
The Don DeLorenzo Scholarship was established in the summer of
2012 by the family and friends of former Youngstown State
University instructor and Boardman High School teacher Don
DeLorenzo. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a junior or
senior student-athlete who has a major or minor concentration in
Mathematics and carries a 3.0 grade-point average or higher. The
recipient will be a person who displays a deep commitment to
academics, has a strong value system and lives life with the
competitive spirit that Don did.
"YSU was instrumental in the development of Donald's teaching
profession, and this scholarship recognizes, with gratitude and
appreciation, the impact that the university has provided to his
legacy," his wife, Gloria DeLorenzo said.
DeLorenzo earned his bachelor's and two master's degrees from
Youngstown State. He was an adjunct faculty member of the Math
Department for 28 years.
"The Donald DeLorenzo Scholarship serves as an excellent example
of what can happen when friends and family work together with our
great community to support the educational and personal success of
our student-athletes. Many thanks to the DeLorenzo Family for their
continued dedication to Youngstown State Athletics," said Joe
Cassese, Director of Athletic Development.
