Teams Post Runner-Up Finishes at YSU Invite

The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country teams both posted runner-up team finishes at the YSU Collegiate Invitational at the Gorby Family Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.
The women earned a team total of 31 points, while Robert Morris won the invitational with 24 points. The men posted 41 team points, with the Colonials claiming the team title with 28 points.
Erica Kaulen led the women's side for the second consecutive race, clocking a new collegiate-best 6K time of 22:04 to finish third. Caleigh Richards followed closely behind, posting a fourth-place finish with a time of 22:05.
The rest of the Penguins' top-10 field was scattered with runners from RMU breaking up the pack. Maggie Hopple placed sixth with a time of 22:36, Megan Stafford finished eighth with a time of 22:58, and Julia Wheeler posted a time of 23:24 to finish 10th.
Linsey Plant finished 12th with a time of 23:36, and Cecelia Chase improved on her 6K time, setting a new personal-best time of 23:46 to finish 15th. Lillian Katsaras and Brady Sterbling took the next two spots, finishing 16th and 17th, respectively.
In her first collegiate race, Brenna Bosley ran a time of 24:34 to finish 22nd, and Karis McElhaney followed in 23rd. Olivia Komperda, Lauren Runion and Claire von Boetticher rounded out the Penguins' field.
MJ Pottinger set a new personal-best 8K time of 26:35 to lead the men's side with a fourth-place finish. Blake Baker finished seventh with a time of 27:09 to set a new personal-best time.
The two freshmen posted back-to-back finishes, with Maddox Roach finishing ninth and improving on his RMU Invitational time, crossing the finish line with a new personal-best 8K of 27:17. Tyce Shaner placed 10th in his collegiate debut with a time of 27:20.
Thomas Hunyadi placed 12th with a time of 27:32, followed by Jacob Puhalla in 22nd and Justin Sahli in 26th.
Up next the Penguins will send runners to the Notre Dame Joe Piane Gold and Blue Invitational to compete in the Blue Division race on Oct. 2.
