Penguins Back in Action on Saturday at Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic

The Youngstown State women's golf team will continue its fall schedule on Saturday when it begins play in the two-day Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.
Most recently, the Penguins finished seventh as a team at the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational on Sept. 20-21 at Forest Akers West Golf Course in Lansing, Mich. Freshman Inés González Ortega finished tied for 24th to pace the Penguins individually for the third straight tournament to begin the 2026-27 season. The native of Santander, Cantabria, Spain, turned in a two-round score of 156 (75-81) in her third collegiate tournament.
The tournament field at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic will feature 13 other schools including Ball State, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, High Point, Louisville, Morehead State, North Florida, Notre Dame, Purdue, Stonehill, Toledo, Wisconsin and Xavier.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 6,062 yards and par is 71. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature González Ortega, Valentina Peña Anaya, Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Sofia Perez Escarcena and Eliza Mercer. In addition, Bella Saur will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.
