Sam Earns Top-Five Finish to Pace Penguins at River Run Country Club Collegiate

Davidson, N.C. – Fifth-year senior Ryan Sam finished tied for fourth individually to pace the Youngstown State men's golf team at the River Run Country Club Collegiate hosted by Davidson, which concluded on Tuesday at River Country Club.
Sam, a fifth-year senior from Canfield, Ohio, finished tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard at two under par overall with a three-round score of 214 (73-74-67) to collect his second top-10 finish in as many events to begin the 2026-27 season. Sam matched his season and career-low round with a five-under-par 67 in Tuesday's third and final session. The fifth-year's final round featured 11 pars, six birdies and one bogey as he fired a four-under-par 32 with four birdies on the front nine.
As a team, the Penguins placed ninth with a three-round total of 898. YSU recorded team marks of 299 and 300 in the first two rounds of action on Monday before closing the tournament with a 299 in the third and final round on Tuesday.
Jordan Kish finished tied for 21st with a three-round score of 222 (74-74-74). The junior's final-round 74 on Tuesday included nine pars, two birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 2. Michael Porter carded a three-round total of 229 (75-78-76) in his first tournament of the fall season.
Nathan Miller turned in a three-round score of 235 (77-76-82) while Rocco Turner posted a three-round 236 (78-76-82). Playing as an individual, Ayden Richmond finished the event with a three-round total of 238 (80-80-78) in his first competition of the campaign.
Presbyterian outdueled the host Davidson by one stroke to claim the tournament title at five over par as a team with a three-round total of 869. East Carolina and Dayton each finished four shots back of runner-up Davidson to tie for third while Towson rounded out the top five with an 879. Presbyterian's Spence Hagood earned medalist honors by three shots at six under par with a three-round score of 210 (68-70-72).
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 5-6 with the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
