Penguins Continue Fall Schedule on Monday at River Run Country Club Collegiate

The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue its fall schedule on Monday when it begins play in the two-day River Run Country Club Collegiate hosted by Davidson at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C.
The Penguins are coming off a seventh-place finish in the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Sept. 14-15. YSU finished the two-day event with a three-round team total of 854, which is tied for the sixth-lowest 54-hole performance in program history. Youngstown State opened the new campaign with team scores of 281 and 276 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Sept. 14, to sit in second place ahead of the third and final session. YSU's second-round 276 (-8) matched the third-lowest 18-hole performance in school history.
Fifth-year senior Ryan Sam finished tied for seventh individually at four under par for the event with a career-best three-round score of 209 (67-68-74). The Canfield, Ohio, native matched his career-low round with a four-under-par 67 in the opening session that featured 10 pars and six birdies. Sam's second-round 68 included 13 pars and four birdies as he made par or better on each of his first 12 holes. The fifth-year's three-round 209 is tied for the seventh-lowest individual 54-hole score in program history.
The tournament field at the River Run Country Club Collegiate will feature 12 other schools including host Davidson, Dayton, East Carolina, Marshall, Mount St. Mary's, North Carolina A&T, Presbyterian, Queens University of Charlotte, Radford, Rhode Island, Robert Morris and Towson.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Sam, Michael Porter, Jordan Kish, Nathan Miller and Rocco Turner. In addition, Ayden Richmond will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.
Sam, Kish, Miller and Turner each competed at the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational while both Porter and Richmond will be making their season debuts.
