Women’s Golf Resumes Fall Slate on Sunday at Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational

The Youngstown State women's golf team will resume its fall schedule on Sunday when it begins play in the two-day Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course in Lansing, Mich.
In their most recent competition, the Penguins finished 14th at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational on Sept. 7-8. Freshman Inés González Ortega finished tied for 12th at Penn State's event to come in as YSU's top individual finisher for the second straight tournament to begin the 2026-27 season. In just her second collegiate tournament, González Ortega finished with a three-round score of 214 (74-71-69). She also finished tied for ninth at the season-opening Roseann Schwartz Invitational with a two-round total of 149 (77-72).
The tournament field at the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational will feature 14 other schools including host Michigan State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Delaware, Findlay, FIU, Grand Valley State, Illinois State, Kennesaw State, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, Rutgers and Western Michigan.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday in the two-day, 54-hole event. The course will play approximately 6,368 yards and par is 72. Sunday's opening round is set to begin at 9 a.m. while Monday's final round is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will feature González Ortega, Valentina Peña Anaya, Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Sofia Perez Escarcena and Eliza Mercer. All five players in YSU's lineup have competed in each of the first two events this fall.
The Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational, which began in 1978, is named after Michigan State's longtime head coach from 1973-97. The tournament features the top teams in the Midwest and is played at Forest Akers West, the site of a 2024 NCAA Regional and on one of the premier collegiate golf courses in the country.
