The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over Bowling Green on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (4-4) won a hard-fought doubles point and had wins in singles by Sarah Partida Garcia, Lorena Cedeno and Hann Telzynska to defeat the Falcons (5-3).
The doubles point came down to No. 2. At No. 1, Yoana Dudova and Telzynska picked up a 6-3 win while the Falcons won 6-4 at No. 3.
At No. 2, Lorena Cedeno and Line Greyling trailed 3-0 and 4-1 before battling back. Trailing 4-1, the duo won four straight points to lead 5-4. Then Bowling Green won the next two points to go in front 6-5. YSU forced a tiebreaker winning the next point.
In the tiebreak, YSU took a 3-1 lead and was ahead 5-3 and 6-4. But the Falcons fought off four match points before a Greyling forehand winner clinched the point.
In singles, Cedeno won at No. 2 by a score of 6-3, 6-0 while Partida claimed an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6. Bowling Green won in straight sets at No. 3.
The Falcons were able to win in three sets at No. 4 and No. 5 to even the match. But Telzynska held on for a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win to earn the 4-3 win.
The Penguins are back in action tomorrow morning when they face Duquesne. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 10 a.m. Â
