The Youngstown State baseball program has been recognized as a recipient of the American Baseball Coaches Association's 2024-25 Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The award honors high school and collegiate programs coached by ABCA members that post a grade point average (GPA) over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year. YSU has now earned this impressive academic distinction each of the last eight seasons.
Youngstown State finished the 2024-25 academic year with a 3.42 cumulative GPA after posting a mark of 3.31 during the spring semester. The Penguins have now achieved a team GPA of above 3.0 for 16 straight semesters. The team had an impressive 30 student-athletes post a GPA of at least 3.0 during the spring.
In addition, YSU had a pair of student-athletes earn individual academic honors in 2025. Braden Gebhardt and Jacob Gehring were each named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. Gebhardt and Gehring were also selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for 2024-25.
