Men’s Golf Resumes Spring Slate Monday at Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational

The Youngstown State men's golf team will resume its spring schedule on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Penguins are coming off a fourth-place team finish in the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State on March 8 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. Freshman Jordan Kish earned a career-best third-place finish with a three-round score of 215 (70-74-71). The freshman's career-low, two-under-par 70 in the opening round on Friday featured 10 pars and five birdies as he fired a one-under-par 35 on both on the front and back nine. For his performance, the Massillon, Ohio, native was named the Horizon League Men's Golfer of the Week on March 13.
The tournament field at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational will feature 12 other schools including Butler, Bradley, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit Mercy, Evansville, Green Bay, Indian Hills, IU Indianapolis, Loyola Chicago, Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne. Additionally, Ball State, Indiana and Miami Ohio will each have players competing as individuals.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 6,551 yards and par is 70. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard Live through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will feature Jacob Sylak, Ryan Sam, Kish, Nolan Shilling and Michael Porter. In addition, Josh Weiner will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.
Kish and Sam have participated in all eight events YSU has played this season while Porter and Shilling have each competed in seven tournaments. Sylak has participated in six events while Weiner has competed in one tournament.
The tournament is named in honor of the late Don Benbow, who was inducted into the Butler Athletics Hall of Fame for his contributions as a standout football student-athlete, golf and football coach, and his time at Butler as an athletics administrator.
