Ocala, Fla. - The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs each put up impressive times in the postseason CSCAA National Invitational Championship that concluded on Saturday evening at the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training (FAST) facility.
James Slessor put together a very strong performance in the 50 breaststroke, finishing fifth with a time of 24.76. Slessor had another top ten performance in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in sixth place with a time of 53.96. Slessor also competed in the 200 breaststroke, finishing 15th with a time of 1:59.80.
The men's 400-free relay squad of Lorenz Beck, Gavin Redden, Darren Laing, and Jacob Gramer finished in sixth, clocking a collective time of 2:56.49.
Jacob Gramer competed in many events throughout the meet for the Penguin men. In the 50 butterfly, he finished 12th with a time of 21.38. Gramer also competed in the 50 free, clocking a time of 20.25, good enough for a 13th-place finish. He also participated in the 100 fly, finishing 14th with a time of 47.66. Rounding out his individual events for the week, Gramer secured an 18th-place finish in the 100 free, finishing in 44.17.
Lorenz Beck had a strong showing in the 200 fly, placing 16th with a time of 1:48.49
Oliwia Kaniak set a new program record in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:02.32. She finished in 20th place. Kaniak also competed in the 100 IM, finishing in 19th place, clocking a time of 56.55.
The Penguin women were well-represented in the 1000 free, as Miriam Frass placed 21st with a time of 10:12.66, Hailey Clark finished closely behind her in 23rd place with a time of 10:14.14, Olivia Sweetman clocked a time of 10:16.20, good enough for a 26th-place finish, and Morgan Glass finished in 32nd place with a time of 10:24.37. Ethan Woycehoski swam a time of 9:56.57 in the men's portion of the event, finishing in 24th place.
The same five swimmers also competed in the 1650 free. Frass led the women in this event as well, placing 16th with a time of 16:51.48. Hailey Clark finished in 22nd place with a time of 17:02.99, while Olivia Sweetman finished right behind her in 23rd place, clocking a time of 17:04.05, and Morgan Glass rounded out the women with a 36th-place finish, clocking a time of 17:25.23. Woycehoski also finished in 24th in the men's 1650 free, swimming a time of 16:35.08.
Looking at the other relay events that the Penguins participated in, the men's 800-free relay team of Jacob Gramer, Lorenz Beck, Darren Laing, and Ethan Woycehoski finished 12th with a time of 6:42.06. The men's 200-medley relay team of Elliot Elmore, Dom Panozzo, Gramer, and Laing finished 15th with a time of 1:29.23. The men's 200-free relay squad of Elmore, Gavin Redden, Laing, and James Slessor finished 18th with a collective time of 1:23.07.
Recapping the diving events, Cody Thill placed 20th in the men's three-meter diving event with a score of 223.20. Hanna Held placed 35th in the women's one-meter diving event with a score of 207.50, while Ellen Linscheid placed 37th with a score of 202.00. Held also competed in the women's platform diving event, finishing 14th with a score of 188.50.
