The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs were well-represented across the 2025 Valeo Horizon League Swimming and Diving All-Academic Teams, the league announced Thursday.
Natalia Andres, Hailey Clark, Miriam Frass, and Oliwia Kaniak of the women's swimming and diving team, as well as Terin Frodyma, James Slessor, Soma Albert, and Gavin Webb of the men's swimming and diving team, all received #HLSD All-Academic Honors.
Andres, a senior majoring in Marketing, owns a 3.92 GPA, is making her first appearance as a member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team. She is a five-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. She finished 10th in 200 fly with a time of 2:07.46, at the 2025 Horizon League Championships, and won one individual event during the season in a dual with Saint Francis.
Clark, a senior majoring in Communication Studies, owns a 3.90 GPA. This is her third time being honored as a member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team, and she is also a five-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. She was a part of the 800-free relay Horizon League champion team, the first relay title in program history. She also finished fifth in the 1650 free with a time of 17:10.14, and seventh in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.88 at the Horizon League Championships.
Frass, a junior majoring in Psychology, maintains a 4.00 GPA. This is her second time being honored as a member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team, and she is also a three-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. She was named the Women's Swimmer of the Meet at the 2025 Horizon League Championships after winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.91, and the 1650 free with a time of 16:40.80. She was part of the 800-free relay Horizon League champion team, the first relay title in program history. She also finished second in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.10 at the conference championships. Frass won 14 individual events during the 2024-25 season across 10 meets.
Kaniak, a senior majoring in Information Technology, owns a 3.61 GPA and is making her first appearance as a part of the Horizon League All-Academic Team. She is also a five-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. She was part of the 800-free relay Horizon League champion team, the first relay title in program history. She also finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a program-record time of 1:02.61, and second in the 200 breaststroke with a program-record time of 2:15.76 at the 2025 Horizon League Championships. Kaniak won 14 individual events during the 2024-25 season across 10 meets.
Frodyma, a senior majoring in Telecommunications Studies with a Sports Broadcasting Track, owns a 3.92 GPA and is making his first appearance on the Horizon League All-Academic Team. He is a five-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. Frodyma advanced to the B Final in the 1650 Free and 400 IM at the 2025 Horizon League Swimming Championships, finishing 10th overall in the 1650 Free with a time of 15:51.34, and 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:00.52.
Slessor, a junior majoring in Supply Chain Management, owns a 4.00 GPA and makes his second appearance on the Horizon League All-Academic Team after also being a member last year. He is a three-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. finished third in 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.05, and fifth with a time of 1:59.61 at the 2025 Horizon League Championships. He was also part of a 200-medley relay team that finished runner-up at the conference championships with a new program record time of 1:27.88. Slessor won 11 individual events during the 2024-25 season across 10 meets.
Albert, a fifth year majoring in Civil and Construction Engineering Technology, owns a 3.79 GPA and makes his first appearance as an Honorable Mention honoree of the Horizon League All-Academic Team, and third time overall being selected for academic honors, as he was part of the all-academic team twice during his career. He is also a six-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. Albert finished 10th in the 200 backstroke at the 2025 Horizon League Championships.
Webb, a fifth year majoring in Hospitality Management, owns a 3.55 GPA and also makes his first appearance as an Honorable Mention selection of the Horizon League All-Academic Team after being selected to the all-academic team three times during his career already. He is also a six-time member of the HL Academic Honor Roll. Gavin finished third in 1650 free with a time of 15:31.31, fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 3:53.45, and ninth with a time of 4:25.14 at the 2025 Horizon League Championships, and won six individual events during the 2024-25 season across nine meets.
A total of 16 female student athletes and 18 male student athletes across the league's swimming and diving programs were named to the All-Academic Team while an additional three men and women were named honorable mentions. Faculty Athletic Representatives voted for these awards.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
